My Story

  • Stylish, comfortable and sustainable clothing, in classic silhouettes that will stand the test of time. I use ecologically produced fabrics and low impact dyes to make versatile clothing that you can move in.

I work predominantly with hemp, organic cotton, and linen. Much (though not all) of the fabric is hand dyed, so each piece is truly unique.I also focus on producing as little waste in my sewing studio as possible. To achieve that, I utilize the offcuts from garment making in myriad ways—sewing together bigger scraps to make patchwork ponchos and kimonos, turning long, thin scraps into yarn that I crochet into baskets, and using the smaller scraps to make scrunchies, headbands, and bunting. I try to infuse joy into everything that I make. My clothing is made with care, designed to be lived in and enjoyed, and built to last.

  • Aimée Charbonneau is the designer and maker behind Sylph Eco Wear. I do it all! Cutting, sewing, dying, washing fabric, shipping orders, book work, web design, photography, modeling, etc, etc, etc.

  • I started sewing and knitting when I was a little kid. In high school, I was one of the weirdos (still am!), and I started hand sewing my own drawstring pants. Way back in 2000, I spent several months travelling in the Yukon and the gulf islands of BC, including three months on a magical eco-forestry farm with my partner Ahren. We ended up back in our hometown of Guelph, ON, filled with lots of ideas and excitement about what we'd do next. I was pretty excited about herbalism back then, and I started my soap business, Sol Beauty, in 2004. Somewhere around 2009, I decided to start a second crafty business making clothing, and Sylph Eco Wear has been growing and evolving since then. When the pandemic hit, soap making took a back seat as online sales of comfy clothes took centre stage, and I haven't looked back. 2024 was the final year for Sol Beauty. It was a good run! But I'm stoked to be focusing solely on clothing going forward.

My partner Ahren developed a real passion for organic farming, and he's been pursuing it since 2001. He farmed on rented land in and around Guelph for many years, till we were able to buy our own farm in Grey County, Ontario in 2011.

Small scale, organic farming is a real tough row to hoe, and though he grew the most beautiful asparagus, shiitake mushrooms (on logs in the forest!) and dried beans, he switched gears a few years ago and is now working with our next door farm neighbours, Cedar Down Farm, growing the most beautiful and tasty veggies around.

We spend a whole lot of our time being thankful for all the luck, privilige and support that lets us live out here surrounded by beauty, doing things we love. Thanks for being here!

Sylph Eco Wear is based in Grey County, Ontario, on the traditional lands of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation. I look forward to hearing from you!

In my happiest of happy places--nature.
